Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan

Our work is informed by our Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP). This plan details strategies and actions to tackle environmental challenges and promote sustainable estuary and watershed resources. It informs our work, our priorities, and the many organizations we partner with to carry out the plan. We update our CCMP approximately every ten years. Therefore, our CCMP is adaptive to emerging and present needs.

We are currently implementing our 2025-2035 Piscataqua Region Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan, which is an update of the 2010 CCMP. This work addresses current and emerging issues impacting the water quality and environmental health of estuaries in the Piscataqua Region.

How we Develop our CCMP

Our CCMPs are developed over time, as much an 18-month process involving representing federal and state resource management agencies, nongovernmental organizations, industry, legislators, and the 52 communities in the Piscataqua Region Watershed.

Our CCMP covers watershed areas in New Hampshire and Maine for the Great Bay and Hampton-Seabrook estuaries. It is designed to provide a cohesive, regional approach for agencies, municipalities, conservation organizations, watershed groups, and others that have an interest in maintaining and improving the health of coastal ecosystems.

CCMP Component Documents

As a National Estuary Program, PREP maintains several supplemental CCMP documents support its implementation. These documents include a monitoring plan, habitat strategy, finance strategy, and a communications strategy. They can be can be stand-alone reports or a chapter in the CCMP and are published as they become available.

PREP's Communications Strategy: A Ten Year Plan from 2025-2035

The plan will guide the next 10 years of PREP’s work and will be carried out by PREP staff. It brings together PREP’s communications goals and provides a framework that will help guide communications across many projects and/or campaigns.
