Launching Climate Impact Grants
Need funding to tackle extreme heat and/or flooding in the Great Bay Watershed? PREP is excited to announce the launch of Climate Impact Grants, our new grant program, offered through our Adapting Together initiative.
Climate Impact Grants provide up to $25,000 for community-led projects that address the impacts of extreme heat and/or flooding in the Great Bay Watershed. Projects must emphasize local action and strong community engagement to build climate resilience where it’s needed most.
Who can Apply
The 2025 project theme is extreme heat and/or flooding. All projects must address the theme and grant criteria.
Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) organizations or individuals and/or groups who will partner with a fiscal agent. Projects must take place in one of 39 New Hampshire towns within the Great Bay Watershed and address extreme heat and/or flooding.

How Climate Impact Grants Came About
As part of New Hampshire Charitable Foundation’s Great Bay 2030 initiative, PREP’s Annie Cox, in partnership with Roca Communications and the New Hampshire Coastal Adaptation Workgroup, launched the 2024 Adapting Together pilot program to better understand how communities across the Great Bay Watershed want to take action.
Through listening sessions with local leaders, volunteers, and residents, the team heard a common theme: people have ideas to tackle climate challenges like extreme heat and flooding, but applying for grants can feel daunting—applications are complex, the odds uncertain, and budgets intimidating for first-timers. Many also wanted opportunities to connect with peers and professionals facing similar issues.
The insights we gained led to two new initiatives:
- The Project Builder Program - Helps applicants become grant-ready by shaping their ideas and connecting them with potential partners.
- Climate Impact Grants - Support applicants by putting ideas into motion with funding.
Both programs are led by PREP's Watershed Resilience Manager, Annie Cox.
"This grant program is about more than just funding projects," Annie says. "It's about supporting local leadership, building relationships across our watershed, and creating momentum where's needed most."
Through this program, Annie and PREP hope to spark a network—not just of grantees, but of neighbors—who can learn from each other, grow their capacity, and help shape a more connected, climate-ready future across the Great Bay watershed.
In September and October 2025, Annie will offer office hours to assist applicants with questions.

Funding for Climate Impact Grants
Climate Impact Grants are funded by the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation’s Great Bay 2030 initiative. The vision of Great Bay 2030 is to promote a healthy Great Bay Estuary, distinguished by clean water, accessible lands for recreation and education, habitat for fish and wildlife, climate resilience, and engaged communities committed to supporting the watershed for generations to come.
Does PREP still offer the PREPA Grant Program
Yes, PREP still offers the PREPA Grant Program! This longstanding program supports the 52 cities and towns in the Piscataqua Region Watershed (in both NH and ME), helping communities protect natural resources, improve water quality, and other related goals.
Information about the next PREPA application cycle will be available in fall of 2025.
