Expert Panel Process
In January 2020, PREP and the Town of Durham commenced a three-year partnership initiative, Critical Advances for our Estuaries (CArE), to focus new financial resources on areas of critical need identified by PREP, our partners, and the 52 communities in the Piscataqua Region watershed. CArE identifies four focus areas targeted at improving the understanding and health of the Great Bay Estuary, and wherever possible, the health, resilience, and vitality of the Hampton-Seabrook Estuary and all of the Piscataqua Region’s estuarine resources (learn more about the four focus areas in the PREP 2020 Annual Report).
To begin work related to focus area 3, USNH representing PREP/UNH, is requesting proposals to facilitate and convene a panel to develop recommendations for assigning updated nutrient and sediment removal rates for nonstructural best management practices. Results from this process will enhance the capacity of communities in the Piscataqua Region to reduce non-point source pollution by developing a common calculus to estimate pollutant load reduction of nonstructural BMPs and receive regulatory credits for implementing these practices under MS4 permits.
