State of Our Estuaries: A Year Later

How has it already been a year since the State of Our Estuaries Conference?!

2017 State of Our Estuaries Conference at the Portsmouth Harbor Events Center one year ago today.

I don’t know about you, but this feels like yesterday. Over the last year we’ve shared the State of Our Estuaries report with you in many ways: presentations, social media posts, website content, newsletters, and the latest “Stories from Our Estuaries” video series. We still have plans in the works to keep spreading the key messages from the report, but that will have to wait until the New Year.

In the meantime, as the year comes to a close – and we plan our New Year’s resolutions for 2019 – I wanted to reflect on our collective accomplishments across the region.  You may remember at last year’s conference, PREP challenged you to commit to one or more actions you would take in 2018 to protect water quality and natural resources. Some of the responses from our participants are captured below.

We had an overwhelming response from participants and I’m proud to report that many of those commitments have been fulfilled! This month, in honor of last year’s conference and with 2019 right around the corner, we’d like to highlight some of those commitments and share some successes from our partners.

For some of us, the year flew by too quickly to make tremendous headway toward our goals, but remember that to fully protect water quality and natural resources, these changes or commitments should be incorporated into our daily lives (not just for 2018). We suggest taking the last few weeks of 2018 to revisit some of the goals you set out for yourself and envision them continuing into 2019 – and beyond!
